Mother-Son Dance Songs

When planning events for your wedding reception, don’t forget to add a mother-son dance into the mix. Whether you put it before or after the father-daughter dance is up to you, but it’s still an important event at your reception!

Get your fiancé’s input on dance songs, but if he has no opinion, you can keep with the overall music theme of the wedding or ask your DJ for good suggestions.

Here are a few of my favorite mother-son dance songs from various music genres:

10 Mother-Son Wedding Reception Dance Songs

1.     “A Song for Mama” by Boyz II Men. This sweet R&B ballad is sure to put tears in everybody’s eyes. With smooth vocals and meaningful lyrics, it’s one of the most perfect mother-son songs.

2.    “I Say A Little Prayer” by Aretha Franklin. This song is a more upbeat number, great for a playful mother-son duo. If you can’t see yourself slow dancing with your mother on your wedding night, then this song can come to your rescue.

3.    “Unforgettable” by Nat King Cole. This one is perfect for a mother-son dance or a father-daughter dance, since the duet is sung by Nat King Cole and his daughter. If you want an unforgettable dance, select this one for your wedding reception playlist.

4.    “Mama’s Song” by Carrie Underwood. This song was written for a wedding, and all mothers can identify with it! If you’re looking for the perfect country song to host your mother-son dance, Mama’s Song is the one.

5.    “Your Song” by Elton John. What makes this song a great mother-son song is the lyrics. Elton John plays a beautiful classic-rock ballad with meaningful and heartfelt words. This song is the perfect gift to your mother on your wedding day.

6.    “Greatest Love of All” by Whitney Houston. This song is every mother’s thoughts put on paper. To have kids, every mother has to believe children are the future, and that you should teach them well and let them lead the way. If that sounds like your mother, honor her with this song.

7.    “In My Life” by the Beatles. This classic rock song is all about memories, especially the good ones. If you really want to bring your audience to tears, then add a slide show of memories with this sweet song.

8.    “Hero” by Mariah Carey. I confess. I really love this song. Everyone has a hero in their lives, and they’re not always famous people. If your mother is your hero and you like 2000s R&B songs, then this is the mother-son dance song for you.

9.    “Mother Like Mine” by The Band Perry. The lyrics truly make this country song, but the vocals are amazing, too. If you need a country slow dance to express everything you feel about your mother, this is it.

10. “My Wish” by Rascal Flatts. This is another popular mother-son dance song. Rascal Flatt’s lyrics touch your heart. If you’ve already selected a mother-son dance song, stick this country slow-jam somewhere else on your wedding reception playlist.

11.  “Oh, Mother of Mine” by The Temptations. I can’t end this list without a Motown classic. This upbeat number is perfect if you want to maintain a light-hearted feel but still want a good mother-son dance song.

Any one of these songs can fit in seamlessly with the songs you already have for your wedding reception playlist, but if none of these songs speak to you, check out 10 more Mother-Son Dance Songs. Also, don’t hesitate to get recommendations from friends and family or talk to your DJ.
